Students, faculty, and staff at the University of Pennsylvania have access to Microsoft Office 365, including tools commonly used for courses in health care innovation: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Methods for obtaining the software differ slightly depending on your primary University of Pennsylvania affiliation. Please see the appropriate directions below.
If Your Primary Affiliation is the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) or Penn Medicine
If your primary affiliation is with Penn Medicine or with PSOM, and you use an @pennmedicine.upenn.edu email account, you can download Microsoft Office 365 by logging into your Penn Medicine Webmail. To install Microsoft Office 365:
- Access your webmail from this link.
- Select "pennmedicine.upenn.edu" from the dropdown menu.
- Once you have logged in, click the nine-dotted square in the top left-hand corner of the browser window, then click the "Office 365 ->" link. This will take you to the main screen of your Office 365 cloud instance.
- From the Office 365 main screen, you can install Office 365 by:
- Clicking on the “Install Office” button at the top right of your browser window.
- From the dropdown menu, choosing “Office 365 Apps.”
- Once you have downloaded and installed Microsoft Office 365, you may need to sign into it again using your Penn Medicine credentials to claim your license. Your username and password should be the same credentials you use to access your Penn Medicine email.

If Your Primary Affiliation is the Carey School of Law
Faculty, staff, and students whose primary affiliation is the Carey School of Law can download Microsoft Office 365 using the following directions:
- Go to the Microsoft online portal.
- Log in with your LawKey and password.
Your LawKey is the same as your email address. - This will take you to the Microsoft office portal. From there, you can download and install Office 365 by:
- Clicking on the “Install Office” button at the top right of your browser window.
- From the dropdown menu, choosing “Office 365 Apps.”

If Your Primary Affiliation is Elsewhere at the University of Pennsylvania
If your primary University of Pennsylvania affiliation is with any school other than the PSOM or the Carey School of Law, you are eligible for a PennO365 account. To access PennO365:
- Go to the Microsoft online portal.
- Log in with your PennO365 username and password.
PennO365 username is your Pennkey username @upenn.edu; your password is the same as your Pennkey password. - This will take you to the Microsoft online portal. From there, you can:
- Access Office Online and OneDrive.
- Download Office 365 ProPlus applications on up to five personal computers and/or mobile devices.
- Manage your PennO365 account settings.
