Key Information about Health Care Innovation Courses

  • Access courses from Penn Canvas at https://canvas.upenn.edu/.
  • Get started in courses by reading:
    • The course front page
Which includes a course description and learning objectives, due dates for assignments and times for live class meetings, a breakdown of grading, and links to course policies.
    • Weekly announcements
Which arrive in your email on Tuesdays.
    • Weekly overview pages
Which include a summary and learning objectives for each week of the course.
  • Class meetings are held via Zoom and are your opportunity to interact live with instructors, course assistants, and your classmates. We strongly recommend that you attend those sessions in person at the specified times. If you are unable to attend live, you can watch a recording of the class after it concludes. Learn more about participating in class meetings.
  • Discussion forums are the most common course activity. Most weeks, you will be asked to participate in one graded discussion by making a post in response to a prompt, and then commenting to two posts from classmates. Learn more about participating in discussion forums in Canvas and Harmonize.
  • Canvas assignments are used for weekly practice activities and for many final deliverables. Your submissions will be visible to the course's teaching team, but not to your classmates. They are frequently used for papers, personal reflections, worksheets, and more complex projects. Learn more about submitting assignments in Canvas.
  • Canvas quizzes may appear in some Health Care Innovation courses. These will help you check your knowledge. Please read the directions to learn how many attempts you will have to take each quiz, as well as what types of questions you will encounter. The most common question types are multiple choice, multiple answer, and short answer. Learn more about taking quizzes in Canvas.

At the end of each course you will be asked to complete 2 course evaluations, one each for the course and the instructor. You will also be asked to evaluate how well the course met its learning objectives. MEHP Online uses this information for continuous improvement, and you will often see adjustments based on your feedback in subsequent courses. Please complete these evaluation activities in a timely manner.
