Harmonize is a robust multimedia collaboration tool and discussion board. In health care innovation courses, you will most often see Harmonize used for weekly discussions.
Harmonize discussions usually have 2 due dates—known in Harmonize as milestones:
- One for your original post.
- One for leaving comments on your classmates’ work.
As with other assignments, you will see each due date on the front page of courses, on the weekly overview page, in the course Modules section, and on your Canvas calendar.

Harmonize Posting Options
When you enter a Harmonize Discussion you will be asked to + Create New Post. All posts include text. You can also add a variety of media elements including:
- Code
- Images and PDFs
- Audio and video recordings
- Screen recordings
- Polls
- Annotated media (images, videos, etc. that your classmates can mark up directly)
You can continue to add text and media elements to a post until you are happy with your submission. When you are ready, click the Publish button to submit your work.
Recording Slide Presentations with Harmonize
Some assignments in health care innovation courses ask you to record yourself delivering a slide presentation. In Harmonize, you can accomplish this by creating a narrated screen recording.
Harmonize support includes detailed directions for creating a screen recording with voice narration. Please review it before you create and submit your presentation.
Tips for Using Harmonize
- Text and multimedia components like images are separate blocks in a Harmonize discussion post. Images cannot be embedded in-line inside of text.
- See at a glance whether classmates have commented on your posts by switching from list view to grid view.
- See at a glance how many posts and comments are due on a discussion, and when they are due, by looking at the requirements at the top of the Harmonize discussion.
- Add alt text to images that you upload in order to make your posts accessible for classmates who are blind or have low vision.
Troubleshooting
- If you are having trouble with Harmonize, please make sure that you are using a supported and correctly configured web browser.
- If you have trouble uploading a video to Harmonize, check your phone or computer's camera settings and try to lower the resolution for an easier-to-upload video, or try using Harmonizes built-in video recorder to record your response.
- For additional support, please reach out to your course assistants and let them know you have experienced an issue, then email Harmonize directly at support@harmonizelearning.com or the MEHP Online support team at MEHPhelp@pennmedicine.upenn.edu.
